I’ll acknowledge that some English phrases are difficult to translate into other languages, but in some cases, people just don’t try very hard.

A prime example of this came in the form of a thick RedPlum circular that arrived in the mail recently. I’ve been annoyed by such junk mail for a long time, but this particular issue featured a full-page ad for Domino’s Pizza on the cover that grabbed my attention. Its bilingual headline read as follows:

Domino’s® NEW Stuffed Cheesy Bread
IT’S WHAT’S ON THE INSIDE THAT COUNTS.

Nuevo Stuffed Cheesy Bread de Domino’s®.
ES LO DE ADENTRO LO QUE CUENTA.

“Nuevo Stuffed Cheesy Bread”? Really? Even a complete amateur like me could come up with something better than that. Perhaps Nuevo Pan con Queso (“New Bread with Cheese”)?
