Time certainly flies. Just ask my parents, who have now been happily married for 40 years!

To celebrate this special milestone, I joined my sisters Jen and Meg, Aunt Mary, and Joan in treating my mom and dad to a delicious Italian dinner at our favorite restaurant, Trattoria Giuseppe, followed by a celebratory cake and gifts at their house in West Chester, along with a touching look through their wedding album.

Peggy Byrne and Mike Devine were married on Oct. 2, 1971, at Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church in northeast Philadelphia. The ceremony was followed by a reception with family and friends at a place called The Shack, a former banquet hall on Roosevelt Boulevard that my parents insist was much more elegant than the name implied. And after their big day, they enjoyed a wonderful honeymoon in Portugal, Spain, and Morocco.

Congratulations to my parents on four decades together! They’ve set an excellent example for Joan and me.
