Sept. 1, 2001

Joined a record crowd of 109,313 to witness the first Penn State football game in newly expanded Beaver Stadium. Also saw Adam Taliaferro, who suffered a paralyzing injury last season, demonstrate his miraculous recovery by actually walking out of the tunnel and onto the field.

Unfortunately, the team didn’t seem to share Taliaferro’s determination, losing their home opener to second-ranked Miami, 33–7. I know every team goes through an occasional downturn, but PSU has been losing ground faster than a Nasdaq stock. Could be another frustrating season.
